Nathaniel was 24 when he became a victim of police brutality. His mother told me that the police officers involved were never charged, which made her to come and participate in the Black Lives Matter sympathy demonstration in London 7th of July, 2020. While many news outlets have tried to portray the protests in a violent manner or as a desperate replica of American protests, the brutality of the British police and institutionalized racism is evident in many British everyday lives. According to the charity Inquest, a total of 1,741 people have died in police custody or otherwise in England and Wales since 1990 after contacting police. My pictures were taken during the protest to represent those who still have to fight for equal representation in our society.
